Les Chenilles

Les Chenilles is a French school in Walthamstow, London, offering classes to children of nursery and primary-school age. They needed a website that would communicate essential information to parents while reflecting the playful, creative spirit of the school.

Design — Created in collaboration with art director and curator Érika Muller, who developed the school's branding. The design centres on letters created by the children themselves in a workshop organised by Érika – these hand-crafted letters appear throughout the site. The playful approach reflects what the school is about: creativity, participation, and making learning fun.

Development — Built on WordPress using the Twenty Twenty theme as a foundation. The main technical challenge was positioning each child-created letter individually to work across different screen sizes, and animating the caterpillars (les chenilles) using CSS. The result is a one-page site that's easy for the school to update while keeping the unique character of the design.

Results — A welcoming website that gives parents the information they need while showing the creative, child-centred approach that makes Les Chenilles special. The playful design communicates what the school stands for before you read a single word.
