Freelance Web Designer in Islington
I'm based in Islington – N5, near Highbury – and most of my work is for small businesses, creative professionals and organisations in and around London. If you're in Islington or nearby and want a web designer who's straightforward to meet in person, that's an easy yes.
Working locally means the practical stuff is simple: a coffee to talk through the brief, a check-in mid-project if something needs working out in person, or a handover that doesn't have to happen over a video call. Not every project needs that, but it's there when it does.
What I build
Most of what I do falls into a few areas:
Websites — Design and build for small businesses, creative practices and organisations. I build with Kirby CMS as standard: fast, secure, and genuinely manageable for a small team without a developer on call. Projects typically run from simple portfolio or brochure sites through to more complex marketing sites.
Online shops — E-commerce builds and migrations if you're moving from one platform to another. I've done several of these from scratch and at least as many rescue jobs on stores that had accumulated too much mess to maintain.
Brand identity — Logo and visual identity work, usually as part of a website project but sometimes as a standalone brief. Useful if you're starting from scratch or need a refresh before a new site launch.
Ongoing support — Website management on a monthly basis: hosting, updates, security, and a contact who actually picks up when something breaks.
Local clients
Local clients include Heckmann Design, an architecture and interior design practice based near Newington Green; Sol Centre, community yoga studio in Tollington Park; and Manor Gardens Centre, an Islington community charity.
Working with a local designer
There's no obligation to hire someone in the same borough – plenty of good work happens entirely over email and calls – but there are a few practical upsides to working with someone nearby.
Meetings are easier to arrange without much planning. If a project involves a stakeholder who isn't technical, it can help to be in the room. And for organisations like charities or community groups who might want ongoing support, knowing your web designer is a short journey away is worth something.
I work with clients across London and outside it, but if local matters to you, it matters to me too.
How a project works
Most projects follow a straightforward sequence: a brief conversation to understand what you need, a written proposal with a fixed price, design sign-off before build begins, and a handover with documentation so you can manage the site yourself going forward. No surprises on cost, no open-ended timelines.
If you want a sense of what questions I ask before starting anything, there's a short piece on that here.
Get in touch
If you're based in Islington and looking for a web designer, get in touch and tell me a bit about what you're working on. I'll reply within a day or two with an honest take on whether I'm the right fit.
I've also written more broadly about web design for Islington and Hackney businesses if you want to read before getting in touch.
